Knowledge about Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (EBP)

The opportunity to get knowledge about evidence-based nursing practice (EBP) has been exceedingly good. Prior to this, my original perception was that, only professionals in biochemistry, chemical science, biology, and genetics conduct evidence-based research in medical labs. Insights from the course have made me realize that optimal nursing care depends on the latest research findings yielded from the combination of nursing and research(Houser, 2014).

To use my knowledge to practice setting, I can circulate research information to other nurses working with people to whom the research applies. By doing this, I would provide a blueprint through which nurses providing patient care will be consumers of nursing research. Significantly, information from nursing research may positively impact the quality of care provided to patients. To make certain that research is based on evidence, I would engage my fellow workers in research procedures. This would broaden my thinking horizon and introduce borrowed concepts that would assist the research.

Despite the fact that I recognize the significance of EBP in nursing, I anticipate the lack of relevance-based databases will be a challenge when translating best evidence into clinical practice (Melnyk, 2011). The growth in demand for nursing care may also bear on research processes as time restraints are significant in all clinical practices. In addition, the lack of accurate deduction procedures to apply to particular patient population may pose challenges to the application of evidence-based research techniques (Houser, 2014). To bridge the gap between research and clinical practice, I would incorporate evidence-based inquiry into organizational policies and processes and use published studies and guidelines that reflect national standards.

At my workplace, gait belts are used to assist caregivers changing a patient’s sitting or standing position. This evidence-based nursing practice eliminates the chance of injuries during transport. Even though research is not a tradition responsibility in nursing, nursing research is an evolving field in which professional nurses can practice, and improve the quality and science of nursing. Its importance should also be over emphasized and important concepts introduced to nursing practitioners.
